Say “Yes!” to the dress? This group of Student Council members at Punxsutawney Area High School did!

On August 28, student officers Avrey Brownlee (Freshman President), Emma Young (Freshman President), Gabriella Kendra (Freshman Secretary), Abbigail Zampini (Freshman Treasurer), Ella Wachob (8th Grade President), Emma Young (8th Grade) , Bella Young (8th Grade), and Alyse Powell (8th Grade) organized a “Dress Drive” at PAHS.

From August 28 - September 13, the students collected approximately 50 dresses and other formal attire, along with 35 pairs of shoes. These donations were then set up in the Chuck Daly Memorial Gymnasium at Punxsutawney Area High School on Saturday, September 16.

The students, along with their Student Council advisors, Alicia Weaver, Heather Good, Kara Leslie, and other Student Council representatives, spent the day helping students pick out the perfect outfit for the upcoming Homecoming Dance, for free!

“I believe this kind of event is a great way to show girls (and guys) in the community that you can look and feel great at all the dances without having to worry about prices. I would love it if other schools in the area started doing things like this, with the hopes of being able to share dress attire among schools in the districts.” commented Brownlee.

Punxsutawney plans on hosting future “Dress Drives” for upcoming formals, and they also have a clothing closet at the high school that is regularly available for students in need of basic clothing.
