Student Engagement at PAHS

Charlotte Danielson, who wrote the playbook for teacher effectiveness, preached that the best learning environment hinges on engagement.

This week, Punxsutawney Area High School hosted its annual Club and Organization Fair for students to consider some of the many opportunities available for them to engage in at PAHS.  Each club/organization set up a table in front of the school, and students were free to intermingle with club and organization representatives to learn more about these opportunities and how to join.

“We are fortunate at PAHS to be able to offer such a variety of extra-curriculars. Our many options provide every student with the opportunity to participate in whatever may interest them. If we don’t offer something that a student may be interested in, we will work with the students to create a new club. One of the biggest goals at the high school is to have students involved,” commented Principal Manny Barbazzeni.

Some of the clubs and organizations represented at the fair included Art Club, Bible Club, Chorus, Foreign Language Club, Gender and Sexuality Alliance, Mock Trial, Music Theater Club, National Honors Society, Science Club, Ski Club, Weather Capital Robotics, and Varsity Club.

These are just a handful of the many opportunities afforded to students at Punxsutawney Area High School.  As of right now, the school boasts nearly thirty clubs/organizations at PAHS (not including athletic programs); and as Barbazzeni noted, they are always open to more.
