Student Supports at PAHS

Punxsutawney Area High School is proud to offer two professional therapists through a partnership with CenClear.  Shannon Rosetti and Jenni Oswalt, who have been with the school for three years now, currently serve as our School Support Therapists.

Rosetti carries a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and has experience providing inpatient services for adolescents and adults in an inpatient psychiatric setting.  At one point, she managed referrals from all over the state, for seven different psychiatric units at once.

Oswalt has a Masters in Social Work, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and specializes in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and provides therapy through her own private practice to individuals twelve years and older beyond her role with PAHS.  Oswalt also has extensive background in drug and alcohol counseling, trauma therapy, and multi-systemic therapy (MST).

“At the school, we offer 'light therapy,' in individual or group settings at the school.  'Light therapy' is considered supportive listening, reflecting the deeper meaning, providing skills for effective communication, self-regulation, and conflict resolution.  We also teach coping skills and other healthy habits to live a productive life.” Rosetti said.

Rosetti and Oswalt also work closely with administration and staff to provide a supportive and positive school climate by collaborating with community and school organizations.  Last year, they partnered with several professionals in the community to provide haircuts for over seventy students, free of charge.  They also worked with the PAHS Agriculture Club to provide over one hundred Thanksgiving meals to families in need.

Another major focus for the school support therapist is reducing chronic absenteeism.  This is a school-wide focus and effort for the Punxsutawney Area High School this year.  Rosetti and Oswalt are working closely with community agencies such as Justice Works to provide support for students and families in removing barriers to getting students to school.

“This year, we plan to get the community involved more than ever!  We will be hosting the Community Connections Resource Fair.  This will provide local agencies with the opportunity to display what they have to offer the residents in the area.  There are so many great resources that Locals don’t even realize Punxsy has.” stated Oswalt and Rosetti.

The Community Connections Resource Fair will be on October 21st from 11am-4pm at PAHS Cafeteria.
