PAHS Students Attend PA State Police Troop C Memorial Service

This year marks a significant milestone for the Pennsylvania State Police as they commemorate their 120th anniversary. Pennsylvania State Police Troop C extended a special invitation to Punxsutawney Area High School (PAHS) to attend their annual memorial service.

Assistant Principal Kyle Gordon and Lisa McMeekin, the Mock Trial Advisor and Foreign Language/Gifted teacher at PAHS, had the distinct honor of accompanying five students to this solemn event. The service featured moving remarks from Captain Rocco J. Russo, Major William Maitland, and the keynote speaker, Colonel Christopher L. Paris.

The ceremony served as a powerful tribute to the brave members of Troop C who made the ultimate sacrifice, including Private John F. Henry, Private Francis A. Zehringer, Corporal Joseph L. Fulton, and Trooper Monty R. Mitchell. The Pennsylvania State Police Ceremonial Unit provided a dignified Firing Detail and the somber notes of Taps, underscoring the profound respect for these fallen heroes.

Reflecting on the experience, Assistant Principal Kyle Gordon expressed deep gratitude, stating, "To be invited by Lieutenant Peters and our neighbors at Troop C to witness this deeply meaningful memorial service was truly an honor for Punxsutawney Area High School. It provided our students with a powerful and tangible understanding of the unwavering dedication and profound sacrifice made by the men and women of the Pennsylvania State Police. We are immensely appreciative for this opportunity to pay our respects and stand in solidarity with those who serve and protect our communities."

The service concluded with Captain Rocco J. Russo offering a powerful message rooted in scripture: "The wicked flee when none pursueth: but the righteous are as bold as a lion." He eloquently articulated that this verse embodies the spirit and courage that defines these brave men and women in their unwavering service to our communities.
