Fall Courtyard Week

Punxsutawney Area High School recently hosted a “Fall Courtyard Week” to welcome in the autumn season.  The courtyard, an interior gem which is only accessible through the interior of the building, is outfitted with a gazebo and several picnic tables.

To aid in the decorating for the festivities, faculty, staff, and students donated a variety of fall decor including hay bales, pumpkins, corn stalks, and the like.  Students in the art club painted windows that encircle the courtyard with Halloween and Fall-themed artwork.  Art students also carved pumpkins, while each club/organization at the high school decorated a pumpkin to represent their clubs too.

Events in the courtyard kicked off last Saturday with junior high dance.  Mr. Mike Thompson, a learning support teacher at the high school, provided the night’s entertainment as the guest DJ.  The gazebo within the courtyard was turned into a DJ booth, as students danced in the open autumn air.

Throughout the week, teachers had the opportunity to sign up to use the courtyard for their classes, and students were invited to eat their lunch in the courtyard too.  On Thursday, the Tri-M Club organized an evening coffeehouse performance where students showcased their musical talents and poetry in the open autumn air.

As students celebrated the transition of seasons, they were also preparing for a new term as the first nine weeks of school in the Punxsutawney Area School District concluded on October 24th.
